Your privacy

Nothing you enter is saved.

People put off dealing with debt because it feels exposing. It should not be. This tool is built so you can be completely honest with yourself without telling anyone anything.

What we never ask for

  • Your name
  • Your email or phone number
  • Your Social Security number
  • An account or login
  • Your bank or card details

How your answers are handled

  • Every calculation runs in your browser
  • Nothing is sent to a server
  • Nothing is stored after you leave
  • Close the tab and it is gone
  • Printing a summary keeps a copy only for you
Why this matters. Bankruptcy decisions need honest numbers. If entering your real debt meant handing it to a company, you would round the corners, and the answer would be useless. So we designed it the other way: tell the truth to yourself, privately, and get a real read.

The straightforward version

Fresh Start is an independent educational resource. It is not a government agency, a court, or a law firm. The site is a set of pages and calculators that run entirely on your device. When you type numbers into a calculator or the questionnaire, those numbers stay in your browser's memory only long enough to show you a result. We do not collect them, we do not transmit them, and there is no database of users because there are no users to track. The one small thing we remember on your own device is the state you choose, so the site can show you the right rules. That is a two-letter code, nothing more, and you can change or clear it anytime.

If we ever add analytics to understand which pages help most, it will be privacy-respecting and count visits, never the numbers you enter. We will say so here plainly before anything changes.
